The screenwriting app I couldn't find, so I built it.

Who's behind it

I'm Jonathan Haar, a software engineer and an aspiring screenwriter. I write ScriptFlo's code, its blog, and these words. There is no team behind the curtain, which means every email to hello@scriptflo.ai lands with the person who can actually fix the thing.

Why it exists

Every screenwriting app I tried made me choose. The industry standard was a one-time license with no help on the page. The newer apps sold tiers, add-ons and AI credits, and the AI they sold wanted to write the scene for me. What I wanted was simpler: a page that formats itself, story structures with the page targets built in, and a coach that reads the whole script, tells me where a scene is soft, and then gets out of the way.

ScriptFlo is that app: an auto-formatting editor, nine story structure templates, visual planning boards, production breakdowns and an AI coach, in one plan. It runs in the browser, saves to the cloud, and uses your own API key for the AI so you pay the model's price and not a markup.

Four things you can hold me to

• The AI never writes over your work. It suggests directions, gives scene notes and checks character voice. The pages stay yours, in your voice.

Free for everyone

Some jobs shouldn't need an account. The free tools convert Fountain to PDF and FDX, count pages and runtime, and give you a Save the Cat beat sheet and a script breakdown sheet, all in the browser with nothing uploaded. The blog covers format, structure, and the honest state of the software market, including the cases where another app is the better fit.
