How it works
Paste Fountain text, plain screenplay text, or drop a .fountain, .txt or .fdx file. The converter reads the title page and every element, lays the script out on a standard page, shows you the page count and a preview of page one, and builds a PDF with a title page when you ask for it. FDX output opens directly in Final Draft; Fountain output is clean text with forced marks only where a line would otherwise be misread.
Writing Fountain in a plain text file
Scene headings start with INT., EXT., EST. or I/E. Character names are written in capitals on their own line, with dialogue directly underneath and parentheticals in brackets. Transitions are capitals ending in TO:. Leave a blank line between paragraphs, and a blank line before a heading or a character name. That is most of the format; the screenplay format guidecovers the rest, and the “Load sample” button shows a complete scene.

Frequently asked questions
Is my script uploaded anywhere?
No. The page parses, paginates and builds the PDF entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, stored or logged; you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
What is a Fountain file?
Fountain is a plain-text markup for screenplays: scene headings start with INT. or EXT., character names are in capitals above their lines, and the file is just text you can write in any editor. Highland, Slugline, Beat, Fade In, Final Draft and ScriptFlo all read it. Save it with a .fountain extension or as .txt.
Will the PDF match Final Draft's page count?
Closely but not exactly. The converter uses the standard layout, Courier 12 on US Letter with a 1.5-inch left margin and 54 lines a page, and breaks dialogue with (MORE) and (CONT'D) the same way. Line-wrapping and widow rules differ slightly between programs, so expect the count to land within a page or two.
Can I convert FDX to Fountain?
Yes. Drop or paste a Final Draft .fdx file and download it as Fountain, or as a fresh PDF. Scene numbers, dual dialogue and the title page come across; Final Draft's bold and italic styling does not.
What does the converter not handle?
Emphasis markers (*italic*, **bold**, _underline_) are removed rather than styled. Dual dialogue prints one speech after the other instead of side by side. Sections (#) and synopses (=) are outline-only and are left out, as the Fountain spec intends. Non-Latin alphabets are not supported by the built-in Courier font.
